Methodology

Methodology

This page explains how K-Beauty Vibe collects and displays ranking data.

Rankings are collected separately, per platform

Olive Young Korea, Hwahae, Amazon, Daiso, and Musinsa expose different
market or review signals. K-Beauty Vibe does not combine them into a single
“overall rank.” Olive Young Global is handled separately as a storefront
signal for price, rating, review count, and availability.

KBV Score

Some product cards also show a KBV Score, a supplementary signal built
from two inputs: recent movement on Korea’s sales-ranking sources (Market
Demand) and how a product’s rating compares within its own category on the
review platforms above (Consumer Review Signal, adjusted so a handful of
5-star reviews can’t outrank a much larger review pool). It never uses
affiliate commission, ad spend, discount rate, lowest price, or this
site’s own click data as an input, and it never changes a platform’s own
rank or which tab a product appears under – it sits next to the real
ranking, not in place of it. A score only appears once enough real history
exists behind it; a brand-new or thinly-tracked listing shows no score
rather than an early guess.

Rising

Some category pages show a Rising tab next to Top Ranked. It compares a
product’s recent Market Demand position to its position several weeks
earlier, confirmed on more than one platform where possible – a product
only appears there for real, sustained improvement. A category with
nothing meeting that bar yet simply has no Rising tab, rather than an
empty one.

Amazon rankings specifically

Amazon doesn’t publish a Korean-beauty-only category. What’s shown as
“Amazon” here comes from a search for Korean beauty products within Amazon’s
Beauty department, in the order Amazon’s own search returns them – this is
not the same thing as Amazon’s official Best Sellers Rank for a category,
and we don’t relabel it as one.

Matching the same product across platforms

When the same real product appears on more than one platform, we match it
by brand, product name, and (where stated) volume, and show its position on
every platform it was matched on under “Rankings Across Platforms” on that
product’s page. Matches require a high similarity threshold; if a product
doesn’t confidently match anything, it’s shown only under the platform it
was found on.

Availability

A product is marked available outside Korea only when we have direct
evidence of that – either it was found on a global-region source itself, or
matched to one. We do not guess. Where that evidence doesn’t exist, the
product is simply not marked either way rather than assumed unavailable.

What we don’t estimate

If a rank, rating, price, or availability figure isn’t confirmed by a
source, it is left blank rather than filled in with an estimate.

Automated collection, manual review

Ranking data is collected automatically on a scheduled basis. Category
matching and cross-platform product matching are done with rule-based logic
that we periodically check by hand for false matches, rather than left
entirely unsupervised.

Independence

K-Beauty Vibe is an independent ranking comparison site and is not
affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official partner of Olive Young, Hwahae,
Amazon, Daiso, Musinsa, or Sephora. Platform names are used for identification
only.
