Bosch SHP78CM5N Cycles: What to Choose and How to Save Favorite

Quick answer: The Bosch SHP78CM5N has Heavy, Auto, Normal, Speed60 and Favorite on its control panel. Use Normal for an ordinary load, Auto when you want sensor adjustment, and Heavy for suitable sturdy items with stubborn food. Favorite saves a cycle-and-option combination.

Which cycle should you choose?

Selection summary based on the model’s U.S. use-and-care manual, page 10.
Measurement or settingWhat it means
NormalEveryday mixed dishes with ordinary food residue.
AutoMixed loads; sensors adapt washing to detected soil.
HeavySturdy pots and dishes with stubborn dried or baked-on food; check that items are dishwasher-safe.
Speed60Time-focused cleaning for an appropriate everyday load. Bosch lists a one-hour base cycle.
FavoriteYour saved cycle and option combination; not a separate soil-level program.

Start with the dishes

Separate fragile or non-dishwasher-safe items first. Then choose the wash program for the food residue, rather than choosing only by the shortest displayed time.

Add an option for a reason

Choose extra drying or targeted cleaning when needed. Additional options can change the duration; the cycle name alone does not describe the complete program.

Save a Favorite on the dishwasher

  1. Switch the dishwasher on.
  2. Select the cycle you want to reuse.
  3. Select the available options you want with it.
  4. Hold Favorite for 3 seconds. The selected combination and Favorite button flash as it is saved.

You can also save a combination through Home Connect. If someone has already configured Favorite, its behavior may differ from the program you expect; review the stored selection before using it for a special load.

CrystalDry, Sanitize and PowerControl are options

CrystalDry adds drying time. Sanitize uses an elevated-temperature stage and can increase time and energy use. PowerControl directs stronger cleaning to selected lower-rack areas. These are not three extra panel cycles.

Place the items needing stronger cleaning in the selected area. The manual describes front and back selections and custom lower-rack zones configured through Home Connect. Availability depends on the chosen combination.

What Home Connect adds

Bosch’s U.S. sheet lists Delicate, Rinse and MachineCare as additional app cycles, plus Half Load and Eco options. Look for them in the connected appliance’s current app interface; app presentation and available combinations can change.

The normal panel controls still provide the five selections above. The app is useful when you want an additional program or custom zone settings, rather than something you must open for every everyday wash.

Do not assume every option works with every cycle. If an option is unavailable, check the selected program and the manual for the full E-Nr. before treating it as a fault. Speed60’s published base time is not a promise that every combination will finish in exactly an hour.
